Finally I can communicate with the rest of society. I did the proper geeking out with my Star Trek friends yesterday. I don’t think there’re any other movies in the near future like Star Trek where I’ll be dying to talk to friends about. Next is probably “Up.” I am curious about Terminator Salvation, but I don’t have any hopes or expectations for it.
I know myself way too well. Also I know the people of my generation and younger who I’m sure will be attached to computers this holiday more than their families would like. Just think what kids will be like by the time my generation is old enough that their kids are teenagers.
Yes, despite me wondering all weekend when St. Patrick’s Day was. When my girlfriend told me she was going out with friends for drinks I still wondered “What’s the occasion”
Yes I did actually do this, but no I wasn’t thwarted and got to take the elevator by myself. The thing is that I know my neighbor’s name and he knows my name so there’s a small amount of familiarity. Beyond that we don’t really talk, so when I’m in the elevator with him it feels really awkward. So I’ve actually done this more than once before. Last night it just took an exceptionally long time because the dog kept on stopping.
I was at a bar and a friend of mine asked me this about a friend of ours. It seemed a funny, yet logical question to ask. Yet when you look back on it, it seems like a sort of absurd exchange to have.
Offense should not be taken by the person throwing the party that I’m going today, because believe it or not I would rather go to the party than play Final Fantasy XII tonight. Playing video games instead of going to social events is dumb unless you’re doing a favor for a friend, and will need alcohol to get through said partybecause you don’t know or care to know anyone there. I haven’t been in that situation yet, but I wouldn’t feel too guilty about skipping out on that.
However, IF I were forced to go to a party like that on the release date of a new Final Fantasy game five years in coming, that would basically be like an adult’s version of the car ride home from the store. Anyone who played video games as a kid knows what I’m talking about. You’ve been saving up money to get this game you really want, you go to the mall with your mom for the express purpose of getting that game. You buy it, all is well and good and you get in the car. THEN your mom realizes she needs to go grocery shopping, thus delaying your gameplay time. So the only solace you have is in reading the user manual because it’s the closest you’ll get to playing the game for maybe an hour.
So today’s my birthday, but as per usual I don’t have any big plans other than going out with friends for food and drinks. If you see me tomorrow after work, yes I will be wearing glasses, this is my battle plan for tomorrow. I have work tomorrow so I don’t plan on staying out very late, though I did take the precaution of doing tomorrow’s comic in advance so as to minimize anything I have to do when I get home.
I’m now a quarter century old, but even saying it that way doesn’t make it sound old because I’m still in my twenties. I think whatever age I am in the future will never seem as old as it did when I was looking up at an older person as a kid. I remember thinking that early twenties was so old when my oldest sister was that age and I was still in elementary school. But things the way they are now I don’t feel old at all. Maybe it’s because I play copious amounts of video games and my bedroom is covered in anime wall scrolls and plushies. Even having the paid job doesn’t really make me feel old, it’s like the world screwed up and somehow I ended up with the means to buy all the comics and toys that I want when I want.
It really was 3:30 am when I saw this girl on the subway touching up her makeup. Not that I know anything about wearing makeup all the time, but I guess maybe at a certain point it just becomes a habit to retouch despite knowing that in half an hour you’ll be taking it off before you go to bed.
Just to give you an idea of how much of a nerd I am, I didn’t know about cinco de mayo until probably the past couple years. The thing is that through college I went out virtually never because I never wanted to spend lots of money going out, and most of my friends were right there with me in this sentiment. It wasn’t until I got to my job when I was with a group of people who went out fairly often. Though we don’t go out as often now as when I started, it’s still more than I would had I never met them.
That being said, if I go out today it’ll probably be to a sake place, but certainly not a mexican bar or restaurant or some other place that is going to be jammed pack to the point of being a fire hazard. Actually, I remember going to a regular bar last year on cinco de mayo and drinks were half the normal cost, score! Or maybe I’ll just go home after work, who knows? Or I might actually be working overtime, I’ll have to see how work goes tomorrow.
I struggled over this strip for a number of reasons. First of all I wasn’t sure if I was going to do a Valentine’s Day comic because I had considered completely ignoring it as a form of silent protest showing my disdain for the holiday. But I’ve been known to skip over important events so I don’t think it would’ve been as effective. The one thing I did know was if I did a Valentine’s Day strip I wanted to have a list of items to epitomize the stereotypical recipe for being single person on Valentine’s Day.
I actually laugh at this one when I read it, but I’m not sure if it’s because it’s funny or just so sadistic that laughing is just a sort of nervous reaction to have. Or it could be funny in a tremendously sadistic sort of way. I’m curious what people will think of the character from this particular strip. I think in terms of the strip it’s staying consistent. Truth be told though, I did this one mostly to mess with my older sister who is into bad romantic comedies.
I plan on spending my Valentine’s Day eating whatever free candy will inevitably show up at work, but otherwise going about my business like it was any other Tuesday. Take THAT Hallmark!
Amusing note, the Wikipedia page has had anonymous editing disabled due to a high frequency of vandalism of the article. I wish I could’ve seen what sort of bitter nonsense people added to the page.
