Secret Subway Nook

It’s the sad reality of subway stations that if there is a reasonably concealed area or a small corner someone has probably peed or pooped in it. I was basically the kid in this comic and my girlfriend was the one who gets credit for the keen observation. The other thing she told me was about the I-beams in subway stations. Most of them at the bottom slant outward from the inside, but apparently at Union Square there are some which don’t, which makes them targets for urinating and pooping in. Yep.

I guess Winter is the time to check out all the dog urination hotspots. Then again, I bet they change all the time because they have to mark new areas. When you really think about it though, there’s probably not an inch of the sidewalk that hasn’t been touched by the urine of a dog or person some point throughout history.

The Greyhound bus driver I had on the way up to Boston this weekend was a very happy-go-lucky sort of guy. I did indeed use the urinal next to him at the rest stop and he did say this word for word. You can’t make this stuff up.

Hold Pee For Great Justice

Actually this works rather well. I got the idea from the Simpsons in the episode where Bart needs to wake up in the morning for some reason and he mentions that the Native Americans would drink lots of water the night before a battle to ensure that they’d be ready to go early in the morning. Not that the Simpsons is the most credible source of information in the world, especially coming from Bart, but it sounds like it could be true doesn’t it? This wasn’t actually a big master scheme of mine, just an after thought after plopping into bed Wednesday night when I was at work until about 1:45 am.

I did actually wake up an hour before my alarm clock in one of those panics where you think you’ve overslept. Though of course when you do that you go back to sleep knowing that that hour will seem even longer than the sleep you just woke from. True to form I woke up ten or so minutes before when I usually take my shower leaving me no time to check my internets before leaving.

Back to the Smell of Urine

Back in the city. I had a delightful Christmas this weekend thanks to my friend’s parents’ generosity. It managed to be enough of a time away that it felt like more than a measley three day weekend. Though when I get to work today we’ll see how good I feel.

Some reason the urine smell at the entrance of the subway I take always seems to be more prevelant when I’m coming home from being away. Though that could just be that the guy relieving himself there does it later in the day which is usually when I get back from the bus or train.

I don’t know when this starts in a person’s life or when it started for me, but I think most people just carry tension in their body 24/7 without realizing it most of the time. I do think about this a lot in the shower because the shower is supposed to be one of those places where people are really relaxed. The water is nice and warm and yet I find myself tense. When I really relax my muscles and all that I almost feel like I’m going to fall asleep. Living/working in the city I’m sure doesn’t help, nor does working/playing in front of a computer all day and night long.

Sadistic Subway Announcer Impedes Pee

So yeah, the last time I had to hold my pee while on the subway doesn’t even compare to tonight. The thing is, that it started off all right, but somehow it got so horribly painful I REALLY didn’t think I was going to make it. It was actually worse than what’s described in this comic. First thing was waiting for the subway at Union Square which was all right. I had my music and I was reading volume 7 of the Naruto manga and I was doing good.

Then when we were going over the Manhattan bridge I opened and closed my eyes several times, this bridge was seemingly going on FOREVER. Finally we get to the first stop when the conductor informs us that we’ll be going to the subway stop right before my stop and that it’ll be the final stop for that train. The direct result of this is that everyone on the train has to get off which means that it takes that much longer to get to the train you want to transfer to because there are so many people in front of you crowding the stairway.

But the happy ending is that the searing pain occasionally backed off enough to give me a moment’s relief (stress “moment”) and I made it home in a nick of time.
