They’re in season, they’re big and juicy. Go get ‘em! Actually this comic isn’t entirely accurate, I prefer a peeled orange to a sliced one, but it’s easier to do the comic this way.

Somehow I think I totally missed the orange season this year. I go to the deli where I get my oranges from pretty frequently, but I know I don’t pay particular attention to the fruit section because I don’t buy fruit often. Just yesterday I saw the big Sunkist oranges that were indeed around $1.29 each. I’ll get some just ’cause I like oranges so much, but if I missed my opportunity to have a delicious orange a day for several weeks then that kinda sucks.
Yes it’s true, and they are delicious. Watch my vitamin C count go way over in the following weeks.
I wish someone else did this for me about all the fruits I love, but this is my attempt to share the love. I went to a deli near my subway station to get some groceries and sandwich stuff, because I’m under the impression that somehow I’ll be able to wake up tomorrow morning with enough time and resolve to go to the deli near my apartment to get cold cuts and cheese. So yeah, oranges are in season, and I can say based off of the one I ate not too long ago that they’re totally juicy and delicious. Go get some. Now.
If you’re reading this somewhere around late January to early February go out and buy some Sunkist oranges. Seems kind of counterintuitive that oranges would be in season when it’s freezing cold outside, but that’s how it works. I have to go and buy some more tomorrow because I ate my last one tonight. Around this time of year I try to eat as many oranges as possible because they’re so so so juicy. Someday I want to be in Florida when oranges are their best to see what they’re like when they’re REALLY fresh.
I loooooooove oranges when they’re in peak season. In fact, that was the impetus for me to make a calendar for when certain fruits are in season. When oranges are in season I try to have at least one a day, but usually end up having more because the taste of a really good orange is just pure bliss. Even though it’s a different fruit I think of James and the Giant Peach when I’m eating a good orange because of the image of James inside the peach opening his mouth to catch the juice dripping from the ceiling. Mmmmm…
