Yup. It’s probably the first New Year’s resolution I’ve followed through with but I went an entire year without ripping the glue on my tear away Sudoku calendar. I suppose I could resolve to do all the Sudoku puzzles but that’s not very likely. Yes, I will thoroughly dispose of the remaining glue later, but ripping the final pages and then separating the glue from the cardboard was as satisfying as I thought it would be. I also did a mini test rip of the glue and it went exactly like I hoped. I will decide how to sufficiently dispose of it later via various methods of cutting but when I’m not so tired like I am as I write this.

I haven’t thought too deeply about what I’m going to the glue on my tear away calendar but you can bet that it’s going to be well documented. I’m just afraid it’s going to be terribly unsatisfying. Or maybe I’ll try to rip it apart and then it won’t rip so I’ll end up having to use scissors or something. Less than four weeks left.

No, he’s not trying to steal the games or trick the retailers if that’s what you’re wondering, it’s all just about peeling the labels. For me easy to peel labels are one of life’s simple pleasures. I’m one of those people who would take those magazine inserts attached by that boogery glue and roll it all up into a tiny little ball. Or one of the people who gets every scrap of the DVD security sticker things when they buy a new DVD.
Anyone who has bought used video games in the past few years from Electronics Boutique or Gamestop (same company) probably knows that they used to be using really crappy labels that were impossible to rip off cleanly. Thankfully now they’ve switched to nicer ones that even rip cleanly off of the instruction manuals. Though lately I’ve been thinking I prefer to buy new games and only used if it’s not from a retailer. Basically I hate how pushy they are at game stores for you to buy into their extra deals and used games, and stupid crap Game Informer magazine. I don’t want to buy their used because on top of being grossly overpriced they receive a ridiculous margin on them and I don’t want to support their tactics. Whereas buying a new game gives them very little money by comparison.

It’s true, my Sudoku tear away calendar still retains every bit of the connecting glue which at this point is an inch wide. The question I have is what to do once December 31st rolls around? Do I just go nuts and tear it to tiny shreds? Do I break up the portions and find different ways of dismantling it with different pairs of scissors or something? Well, that’s still four months away, but each day it gets more difficult to resist the temptation to rip it off. I have a drawer full of the undone Sudokus because the desire has faded since I received the calendar and even then it was on the wane.

There are aspects of my personality that can be rather obsessive and anal. Am I weird for taking great pleasure in removing the cap from my new tube of toothpaste? Does anyone else do this? I also like being the person to take the first piece of paper towel off the roll because that’s the only piece that has a slight stick to the rest of the paper. Anyone?

I do this all the time. Especially when I just came from grocery shopping and my hands are full I’ll take my keys out, use my mouth to get the proper key and then open my door. I’ve thought many times about the cleanliness of the keyhole of my building, but didn’t take it much further past that. I’m not a germaphobe by any stretch of the imagination. I’ll eat something if it falls on the table when I was serving myself, because I just don’t care. As long as it’s solid, I’m not going to wipe up some sauce and eat it off the table because that’s next level gross. With sauce clearly it’s touched more of the table whereas a food item like a vegetable generally doesn’t touch much of the table depending on how it’s cut.
Just yesterday I was calling a friend out on the fact that he didn’t want to touch his phone before eating due to the amount of bacteria that a phone can have on it. My thinking is that if there’s really as much bacteria on the things people are paranoid about then people would be getting sick all the time. Granted it’s not helping to be touching massively infected areas, but neither is leaving the house for that matter. I know people who swear by preventative medicine like echinaea, but each year I still see those same people get sick around the same time everyone else does.

I know I’m not the only one with a fascination for emergency cords levers, switches and whatnot. Just by human nature we want to do all the things we’re told we’re not allowed to. Though this sort of thing is definitely on the list of things I want to do before I die. Well, I don’t have an actual list like that but I’d really liked to pull some emergency switches in my lifetime. I think the ones in particular I want to do are break the glass with the little hammer and pull the fire alarm which has the little glass bar that gets broken when it’s pulled. The emergency brake in the subway has numerous situations when you’re not supposed to pull it, but there’s no sign saying when it’s all right to do it. I guess it’s up to us to imagine major extenuating circumstances that would require that sort of thing.
