My job usually requires that I wear headphones most of the time, but there are a lot of times when I just have them on without even realizing I haven’t been listening to anything for an entire hour. I’m not even doing it so that people won’t talk to me it’s kind of just something that feels comfortable at this point. There is one person in my office though who won’t ever be the first person to ask someone a question, instead they wait for that person to ask. There have been times he’s stood within my peripheral vision while I was wearing headphones and I’ve waited it out as long as I felt comfortable doing it.

It’s criminally hot in my office. I’m pretty sure most offices whose primary means of conducting business is via lots of video equipment are usually very well air conditioned all year round. My office is the exception. The room I’m in has no windows and has several computers, digibeta decks, large hard drives which are on during the day constantly spewing hot air. It’s amazing that stepping across the threshold of the hallway to my room yields what feels like a temperature difference of at least ten degrees. I have a mini portable fan blowing in my face all day.
Needless to say it’s unpleasant, and also really hard to work during the day. This week though we’ve had some really warm temperatures and the surrounding rooms are getting hotter (though still not nearly as hot as my room) so there’s been talk of turning the air conditioning on. But like I said in the strip they need special a/c guys to turn on the a/c because of something that happens in the 6 months it’s been since it was last one that makes it impossible for us to do it ourselves.

A friend of mine who is playing FFXIII right now and have been discussing the game with almost every day told me about this. The title screen with this piano theme sounds like “Final Fantasy, it’s Final Fantasy…” could be the lyrics. He told me I wouldn’t be able to unhear this. I thought I would be able to, but not only have I not unheard it but it’s looping in my head.

It wasn’t actually so late, but I did finally beat it last night. There’s more side mission stuff I’ll probably go back and do though. I’d say this is my official ranking for Final Fantasy games that I’ve beat (blasphemy I know, I haven’t beat any of the other ones).
I really really like the battle system in FFXIII but in the end the story is what made it teeter above or below FFX for most of the game. When I finished it though I decided as a whole the story didn’t come together as well so I put it below FFX. It’s tough because I I like the characters more than the characters in FFX, but I had real problems with the game’s world logic and the generous leaps in logic it seems they’re asking the player to make.
Anyway, I’ll write a full review later and post it on my blog.

Sorry to my friend DK, but I just thought this was too good to not do a comic about. So I did a previous comic about my friend DK giving up junk food for Lent but apparently his definition of junk food is specific to certain types of junk food instead of a more broad definition of junk food. My definition of junk food would be candy, chips, sugary drinks, fast food etc. He’s not eating candy, eating chips or drinking soda, but everything else is fine.
I guess real sugar as opposed to high fructose corn syrup makes it okay. Though if you want to avoid high fructose corn syrup then there’s a lot of food that’s not technically junk food which you’d have to avoid. But who am I to judge? It’s not my Lent resolution

At my last job three years ago I used to eat penne vodka for takeout during overtime hours all the time. I haven’t made much italian food before, but figured I’d give it a whirl.
I burned my hand a bit when I was making vodka sauce for the first time this past weekend. The heat was too high so when I stopped stirring the sauce some bubbles blew up and sauce went in a few places I had to clean up. The sauce turned out pretty tasty so I was very pleased. Now that I have one under my belt I’ll feel a bit more confident when I try again maybe with a different recipe just to see.
Something I didn’t know before is that vodka sauce is orange because of the heavy cream in it, lots of cream. Yeah, not good to eat all the time but every now and then it’s dern tasty.

A really good way to get on the blacklist for link sending is to send a link that is longer than the easily and quickly digestible 3 minute or shorter videos. The best way to get on the blacklist is probably sending a video that is nearly ten minutes long.
Deep linking which is linking to a specific time stamp in a youtube video will make you a better link sender and your friends will love you for it. To do this all you have to do is add: #t=00m00s to the end of the video with the number of minutes and seconds you want to link to. Learn it and guarantee your friends will appreciate it, and maybe you can even get off some blacklists.

There’s about a dozen yellow pages phone books at the entrance of my apartment building. I wonder how old is the youngest person who still knows what a phone book is. For that matter, how old is the youngest person who has USED a phone book?

I never really thought about the snacking habits of people around me at work until a friend of mine at work decided to give up certain junk foods for Lent. In the morning I have a raisin bagel with cream cheese and then lunch. Usually by the end of the day I’m pretty starving.
I’ve had a different number of afternoon snacks when I remember to get one. Right now it’s orange season (but I think it’s just about over) so I’ve been having an orange. Other times I had a peanut butter sandwich with one piece of bread, another time I was having a bun from a nearby Chinese bakery and I was having a couple milano cookies for a bit.
Now that my friend is giving up junk food for Lent suddenly he has these snacks that he can’t eat and when he was offering some of them to me I realized that maybe I’m in the minority on not really having many snacks? Not saying it’s a bad thing, but I don’t snack and work. My food times at work are pretty designated moments, but never really did the sitting and snacking. It’d be interesting to see a timeline of people and their work day eating habits.

If I haven’t said it here I’ve certainly told friends of mine about how ridiculous this situation with my nearly 7 year old 1st generation Power Mac G5. If you watched the original videos about the G5 you heard about how silently the computer runs. Also you heard about how many freakin’ fans it has that are activated dynamically as needed. The thing is that with this computer there’re three “Processor Performance” settings you can have in the Energy control panel: Automatic, Reduced and Highest.
Automatic means that when the computer needs more juice it ramps things up, the other two are self explanatory. By default the computer is set to automatic, but for years now I’ve been running it on reduced because whenever the computer wants more juice the fans start blowing like jet engines.
Sometimes even just playing a flash game I play frequently I turn it to “Highest” so the game will run snappier, but soon after I turn it back down because my computer gets so freakin’ loud and Anna thinks that my computer is about to explode.
Whenever I’m gaming or watching a movie I also make sure to put the computer to sleep because it’s so loud when it’s the only other thing in the room making noise.
The killer is that otherwise the computer is totally fine and I don’t really need to buy new software that requires Intel mac chips. I just can’t justify the cost for a new computer when this one functionally is fine, but just freakin’ loud.
