Something else about San Diego is that a lot more clerks engage you in casual conversation. Sometimes to the point that lines are held up because someone is just shooting the breeze during their transaction. New York is all about just providing the service and moving onto the next person.

This is taking some adjustment because I don’t like holding up lines and I also don’t care to talk to the person ringing up my six pack of beer. In this case though, this was a 7-Eleven clerk who I think is just annoying and is probably trying to spread his hatred of his job to others. (I could sense his co-worker doesn’t like him much either)

At least in NYC when you’re being waited on by the multitudes of people who hate their job they just do their job inefficiently, but otherwise leave you alone.
