Once again the modern day style of news reporting strikes again. First I heard about the car bomb in Times Square, then during the afternoon they interrupted regular programming to report that a Pakistan Taliban group has claimed responsibility. Then at 10:00 pm they say that actually that there’s no evidence to support that.

Of course, before then tons of RSS feeds and twitter feeds have already spread that information and anyone not paying attention later on never learns there’s a chance that information is false. Obviously sometimes there are situations when information needs to be given as soon as possible, but most of the time we end up in situations like this where two minutes of information is spread to half an hour.

I’d have some sympathy for news organizations at times like this where there is no new information forthcoming for hours (if not days) if only they could admit they don’t know anything new and reported other news stories in the meantime.
