I was at a Duane Reade buying batteries and like I usually do thought I’d help out the cashier by giving $11 so that she could just give me a $5 bill back instead of four singles. She gave me this look and asked if that was really what I wanted to do so I said yes. Then she proceeds to give me five singles and my change. So I’m guessing either her brain was so fried from working a register that it didn’t occur to her that she could just give me a $5 bill. Or she was completely out of fives and it was a valid thing to do and I’m just crazy for giving her extra money. Of course I want to believe it’s the former because do people often run out of $5 bills?
