I think this happened at Au Bon Pain or my supermarket where the cashier asked me what kind of bill I had given her when she was still holding it in her hand. I’d understand perfectly if she had already put it away, but she hadn’t. In all fairness, working a register or doing any kind of repetitive behavior does tend to numb the brain and senses.
