Ah local news. I’d love to see the well of stories that you go to whenever you don’t feel like reporting news that’s actually relevant to the people watching. Kind of like how TIME magazine does a feature about Jesus during slow news weeks.

Actually if you’re reading this on the day it was posted then the temperature in NYC should be around the 80s, but most of the weekend and last week was in the mid to high 90s if not 100s. We have air conditioning but our bathroom we had the window open which meant that it was at least as hot in there was it was outside. Later we realized this was silly so we just closed the window and opened the door to the bathroom and it didn’t feel like the armpit of our apartment anymore.
Last week we got some popsicles from Sunrise Mart and even though the cashier was nice enough to give us a bag of ice to prevent the popsicles from melting too much, I think they had melted and refrozen before they were even in our hands. Though unlike the Reese’s chocolate, these refroze in their original shape. The only issue being that the syrup had shifted such that the top and side rim of each popsicle was just ice.
Oh and the title of today’s comic is just a small reference to the Xbox Live Arcade game Bastion which I finished my second play through of over the weekend. If you like action RPGs, beautiful artwork and a good story then I’d very much recommend it. I’ll post a full review once I’m finished with it to my satisfaction. I think I’ll probably beat it one more time and try to challenge myself with its arenas.

Yep, it’s pretty hot over here right now. Luckily I don’t have kung fu class Friday, but it’s still going to be really hot on Saturday when I do. It’s a good thing that it’s only July because that means we still have an entire month of potential record breaking heat.

Yesterday was around 80 degrees so I cleaned the filters in our apartment air conditioners only to find out that the fan for the bedroom a/c wouldn’t turn on. Immediately I start imagining throwing out what looks like a perfectly good 2 year old machine out because the repair cost could be super high. I even know someone who fixes a/c’s but this is what I was imagining.
Computers and software at least I know where to start, but with appliances I’m mostly lost. So I did a quick Google search and saw some people suggesting that the fan might be stuck. I wasn’t sure if they were even talking about the same model, but I figured I didn’t have anything to lose. So I got something to poke at the fan blade and when I turned it on IT WORKED!
That was a relief, because during the process of examining the a/c I was picturing myself as the old dad who thinks he can fix stuff but ends up breaking it making it more expensive to fix when the pro comes over.

I was originally going to do one about the rain drying up when I realized I’ve done that comic already. It’s been raining a lot in NYC lately so I thought it might be time to do another rain strip. I haven’t done one in a long time because I’ve already tapped out a lot of rain comics, and usually getting new ideas requires that I be out in the rain which I don’t normally find myself doing.
Going outside is usually equated with “doing something” because staying at home seems reclusive and sedentary. But with the internets and if your skills are computer-centric then being at home on the computer is the only way to be really productive. If anything, going outside is kind of the break time if you’re in that lifestyle.

I’ve lived my entire life on the East coast in areas which means snow is part of my life. Thankfully even when I have to shovel it I still enjoy it. Of course, during any snow storm comes the snowball test, and if you’re lucky once or twice per season there exists the perfect snowball snow. Usually the temperature has to be 30-40°F which means that it’s not too wet that it soaks your gloves, but sticky enough that if you just grab a fistful then it’ll be a snowball when you open your fist.
It takes tremendous willpower to not just dive into a pile of snow and immediately start making snowmen during this relatively rare occasion. It happened maybe a week ago but it was kind of late at night. In retrospect I should’ve just done it then and there. There’s still time though, I remain optimistic.

I wouldn’t make a comic about this if I didn’t see it with my own two eyes. Who would live in New York long enough that they have a frying pan but not some kind of brush or scraper to clean the snow off their car with?

If you’re not living on the East coast or have been living in a hole we’ve been getting quite a bit snow this Winter. Ever since this Christmas weekend storm it seems like it’s snowed at least once a week. It’s snowing again right now and projections were for 4-8 inches.
I love snow and would love it even if I had to shovel it. As long as I’m in a place like Brooklyn where it accumulates and doesn’t turn to brown sludge I like looking at it and how pretty it looks covering trees and stuff. Of course since the city botched that first big snow storm so badly they seem to have been on top of it ever since, hopefully they keep it up.

I was watching “How I Met Your Mother” yesterday and My 9 news interrupted both episodes to tell me that it was going to snow. Thanks.

Hopefully by the time you read this we made it to Boston without any incident. We really dodged the bullet on this weather. We were going back and forth a bit for when we were going to Boston and settled on Tuesday. Good thing too, because the Bolt Buses for Monday were call canceled because of the weather. Hopefully the driver drove safe and it didn’t take an absurdly long amount of time to get there.
