Anna saw this when she was going uptown from Brooklyn. Though the guy with the book did a “just kidding” to the tourist after his comment about leaving him alone. I imagine that he said that just to be nice, but would’ve been perfectly content to have absolutely no human contact with the tourist for the rest of the ride.

I’m seriously amazed that I’ve never seen people like this who don’t understand the limits of the unlimited Metrocard. I started college late 1999 so I’ve basically been here for over ten years and never seen this. I wonder how many people there are out there who thought that unlimited cards worked this way and then felt totally gypped when it didn’t.

Was on a pretty crowded 6 train when some tourists got on the train. This woman did in fact wonder to herself if the subway had a weight limit. I imagine if there were a weight limit that could be reached via humans piled onto the train you’d have to be above ground and have people stacked up high above the train in order to reach it.

I don’t actually know anything behind this story. All I know is these NY CityTour buses stop at this pizza place in Brooklyn all the time. I had no idea these buses even left Manhattan so it confounds me to think what the heck they’re saying during this part of the tour.

We were around 40th street and 5th avenue when we saw three people dressed for a night out pondering taking a gypsy cab (car service driver trying to pick up some extra money by charging a lot more than a cab would). We guessed they weren’t local otherwise they’d know better than take a gypsy cab. We didn’t say anything, but my girlfriend regret not stopping them. Turns out wikipedia has an entire article for illegal taxicab operation.
If you’re not from NYC, know that if/when you’re there and a black sedan offering to take you for a ride, they’re charging you up the wazoo because they know you might be having trouble finding a cab and may be getting desperate. ESPECIALLY don’t take them from the airport otherwise you’ll have a lot less money for the fun stuff you have to experience in NYC.

This is pretty much exactly what was said, only that it was THREE women talking and not two. I understand out of towners not knowing which bridge is which, and to their credit they ended up with the correct anwer, but couldn’t they at least have used logic that made actual sense? Does this mean that had they been taking the Q train in the other direction they would’ve ended up thinking the Brooklyn Bridge was the Manhattan Bridge?

This was just me on the subway stairs at Canal street on a Saturday. Now that it’s warmer the tourists are going to Canal street and the Chinatown area in droves. I thought this was particularly obnoxious.

This is the same eccentric C train announcer who appeared in this comic. This is something else that he says. A very odd sort of thing to say to the people on the train. His tone of voice almost makes me think he’s hypnotizing us and that the next words out of his mouth will be “when I snap my fingers you will be under my spell…”

I continually make fun of tourists with camcorders in this comic, but I’m pretty sure I never did this one which I always imagine whenever I see them walking around on the street. Since I work in midtown that means I pretty much see tourists with camcorders every single day. Another tip I’d give for that “Just ask the locals” ad campaign is “Leave the camcorder at home and bring your still camera instead” because unless you’re editing the video later it’s going to be boooooooooooring.

Seriously, the sidewalks in New York are really busy, don’t walk backwards unless you’re one of two people carrying a large unwieldy object. I can’t count how many times I’m walking down the sidewalk and I see someone backing up into me like they’re the only person in the entire world. I always want to yell this at them.
