I always sit next to people whenever they’re sitting in the middle. I don’t know if they actually think this, but I imagine that they chose the middle seat because most people won’t sit next to someone if given the option. Well this time I did it and they didn’t budge. I guess they were committed to their choice.

Non-spill tops are good, but unless it’s a special store bought mug it’s probably not going to save your laptop if the unthinkable happens. It was a little nerve wracking watching the guy open his laptop, take his coffee out, slowly peel the non-spill mouthpiece back…
He didn’t end up spilling any coffee, but there was one close call.

We were waiting for the subway when the train finally pulled up, but as it pulled in we could a person entirely covered in a large blanket taking up the corner seat. I think I could see a bit of his foot but it looked kind of unsettling. Sort of like the large sack in the movie “Audition.” I’m guessing MTA workers just let these people be, but I imagine at SOME point they have to be kicked off. If they don’t have to be removed I imagined they’d just check to see that the person is breathing. If a body has been on the subway for hours without anyone knowing it was dead just imagine if someone was dead under a blanket *shudder*
Then again, I’m guessing MTA workers have seen all sorts of horrible stuff. On Reddit they have a section called IAMA where people say stuff like “I am a professional mathematician, ask me anything.” I’d like one for a New York subway worker.

I know every single time when a person won’t find their balance in time before the train lurches forward. It’s so easy to predict that I am often tempted to get up to pretend that I’ve projected an invisible force that propels them back. I felt kind of bad for this woman yesterday morning who dropped part of her egg sandwich she was eating for breakfast. Seriously though, how do people not prepare themselves for the train starting suddenly???

This couple seriously was going at off and on for at least three or four subway stops. It was mostly the woman smooching on the guy, but they were kissing off and on most of the way. She did actually stop and check the time, then continued smooching again. I don’t think I’ve seen a couple kissing in public for so long before, I wonder what it felt like to be the people next to them because being right across from them was enough.

I was on the subway amidst several teenagers, one girl was talking about failing her SATs. I didn’t hear what she said after that but it’s not like the SATs are something you can technically fail. Yeah you can just get a REALLY LOW SCORE but it’s not failing per se. Before I did this comic I went to Wikipedia to see if there was anything else that have changed about the SATs recently. I knew that the max score is now 2400 but I didn’t know they also took analogies out.
I guess that dates the Simpsons episode where Barney drinks his first beer the night before the SATs while quizzing on analogies.

He just politely refused, but I couldn’t help but think about the lack of logic in this situation. He was a blind guy who looked to be in his 30s and perfectly healthy looking. I guess people just have built in blanket consideration for the disabled which not necessarily a bad thing, but it just found it amusing.

I was pretty into Sudoku when it was the big thing and suddenly all online web apps, shareware apps and stuff were sudoku. I remember my friends and I sharing which of the online flash sudoku were our favorite in terms of interface. That was several years ago and I don’t really do them anymore. That said, I can’t help but want to solve the puzzle if I see someone doing it on the subway.
This particular guy had a printed out web sudoku puzzle and he was writing a lot of numbers per square, in some cases it looked like four of five numbers per square. I think the entire trip he didn’t write a single definitive number. I wrote down the number of the puzzle so I could do it at home. The first five or six numbers are a breeze but then not too long after that my printout didn’t look all that dissimilar to what he had.
