I had the apartment all to myself basically all weekend so I spent most of it in front of the TV doing various things. First thing I did was watch the extras for “Iron Man” and “Wall-E.”
I think there might be an episode or two of Star Trek: The Next Generation that I haven’t seen yet, but the one I knew I definitely hadn’t seen was “The Silicon Avatar” where the crystalline entity returns. It was okay, but the novelty of seeing a TNG episode that I hadn’t seen before was pretty cool. I have to check episode lists again to see if that was the last one or not.
Other thing I did was play a lot of Half-Life 2. I’ve been slogging through the game off and on for probably over a year now and I finally beat it. My time for finishing it wasn’t more than 11-12 hours, but so much of the game I was just totally not motivated to keep going on. There’re a lot of sections in the game where I’m given a task that’s really not interesting or very frustrating. Like, having to get over toxic waste by rearranging wooden wheels to step on, but you only have two.
I remember the hype around Half-Life 2 and how I watched all the physics videos and stuff about how wood breaks up like wood etc, but the game never compelled me to continue for long stretches at a time, I thought the pacing was really off which is why it took so long. Also I don’t like vehicle stuff in first person shooters so that didn’t help. After I beat it though I thought I might as well try out episode one which to my surprise I enjoyed a great deal more. I think having another character in my team made it less boring, but also the game bits were much closer together, less walking around doing nothing. I ended up beating it in 3-4 hours.
My only other complaint about the game is the default sound mix which I should probably adjust. Basically to hear the dialogue I need the volume up, but as soon as I shoot a gun it’s so loud I have to turn it back down because it’s way too loud. Even though I think my walls are pretty sound proof I still feel self conscious if my game is too loud.
