I don’t think I’m technically late yet, but I did turn my envelope into the box last night and was greatly relieved to find other envelopes in the box. Hopefully life won’t imitate art.

This is one of two recent dreams I had where I was REALLY glad to wake up and remember that none of my dream had actually happened. The other one involved one of my glasses lenses being reversed somehow so I decided to twist them around so the arms were on opposite sides to fix it. Of course realizing I then couldn’t wear them at all that way I twisted them back which resulted them in snapping. I flipped out realizing that I had to go get them fixed and that they were really expensive. But then I woke up and realized none of it happened.
I remember fewer details about this dream where my rent shot up astronomically, but it was a great relief to wake up from this one. Some people dream about being chased, eaten, falling etc. I apparently dream about my rent going up.

I wish I actually had an alarm like this. The best thing to have would be an alarm clock where you could program specific voice messages for yourself for certain days. I know that has to exist somewhere out there, but probably just as a computer program I’m guessing. The best I have right now is my computer is set to start up in the morning at the same time as my second alarm clock. So since I go to sleep with music playing that means the speakers are still on so I get a really loud Mac chime to wake me up.
As for the rent thing I just sent myself a Gmail that I’m not marking as read until I pay my rent. The reason this works is because I check my email like no one’s business. Well that’s not entirely true because I use Google Notifiers, but what that means is that I have this little red envelope icon that stares and taunts me from the corner of my eye tantalizing me. Actually this is the first time I’ve tried this we’ll see how it goes.

There are certain things in life that cause the body to act instantly no matter how tired or fatigued. Waking up to find that you should’ve been at work fifteen minutes ago is one of them. Realizing that you forgot to pay your rent is another one. Had I not been carrying large shopping bags when I realized it I would’ve made it back to my place much quicker. I’ve only done this once before and I scarcely believe I did it again. Only thing I can blame is the holiday weekend craziness, and unusual number of social events I had been very much looking forward to.
Forgetting rent = all sorts of bad. You’d think I’d have some sort of scheduling system or notification alarm set up. Maybe it’d be a good time to set one up.

This is for the canon whores out there (you know who you are). I think the last time I saw an apartment in my building that was available it was $100 more than what I pay. Renovations aside it’s still a good feeling to see that an apartment that’s really the same size as mine is going for so much more. At least, I was told when I moved in that the apartments in the building were basically all the same size. I’ll just choose to believe that because it’s a more attractive idea.

I have the good fortune of living in a rent stabilized apartment which means it can only go up a certain percentage every year. First year it went up 4.5% whereas another apartment probably could’ve gone up 10% or more. When I moved in I was told that some people in this building have been here so long they’re only paying $600 per month. I suppose if I stay long enough that I could be spending the equivalent of that in a few years. I still think my apartment is a steal which a wonderful feeling living in New York. The thing is that my current apartment is nice for so many reasons I’m not going to want to move until I can find something that at least has the perks plus some more that would make it worth it. Bigger space alone would not be a reason for me to move right now.
