This couple seriously was going at off and on for at least three or four subway stops. It was mostly the woman smooching on the guy, but they were kissing off and on most of the way. She did actually stop and check the time, then continued smooching again. I don’t think I’ve seen a couple kissing in public for so long before, I wonder what it felt like to be the people next to them because being right across from them was enough.

That’s right, now I’ve seen people sharing TWO sets of headphones at the same time. This time it was two guys though. I suppose they could’ve been a couple but they looked more like they were just friends.

I was just north of West 4th street on Broadway last night and I saw this couple intensely making out, the guy’s back against the wall. His hands firmly planted on the girl’s butt. He then proceeded to tap her butt with his right hand. I actually had to cover my mouth because I kind of saw it coming, but it turned to slow motion because I couldn’t believe this guy was actually going to do it. I did actually have to suppress a laugh. I have low tolerance for public displays of affection but this was just so over the top ridiculous, it’s like he was asking for the attention.
Oh, and the “Booty Butt! Booty Butt Cheeks!” Is from the animated version of “The Boondocks.” That’s one of their stock songs that plays during the series sometimes. It was first in the show in the episode where Grandpa is watching BET and the programming is a whole lot of gyrating butts.

People making out in public is annoying enough, but it’s next level to be making out when the weather is in the mid-90s. When I leave either my apartment or even worse, my office building on an oppressively hot day like yesterday (or today) it’s like the world is exhaling straight into my face all this warm air that envelops everything around me. In other words, it feels really gross and the idea that people could be outdoors getting intimate in public sounds really unattractive to me. For god’s sake, go home to your air conditioned apartments and make out! Even if the idea of being all gross and sweaty from the get go is very alluring to you take it somewhere else!
Funny story about when I was researching how to draw a big water splash for this strip. I was on Google Image search trying to figure out what sort of keyword would give me what I wanted. So I tried things like “water splash” but it mostly yielded real life examples instead of drawings. So then I tried putting in some onomatopoeia words for water splashing like SPLOOSH or GOOSH. The latter sent me to this image of Sean Connery from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade because the filename was “Goosh schtepping moransh like you should try reading booksh inschted of burning them!!!.jpg” That made me happy.

The PDA in this scene doesn’t seem as disgusting here as it did in real life because the characters don’t take up as much of the subway seats as a real person would. But to see a couple get onto a subway, go for the two person section and for the girl to sit on the guy’s lap. Come ON! Stuff like that just makes me want to bust out saying “Hi shmoopie! You called me you’re a shmoopie! No You’re a shmoopie!!”
I was actually sitting across from these people when I saw this. I wasn’t sure how to insert the character into the scene, but I actually think it works a lot better this way.

Everyone’s seen these people, it doesn’t matter that it’s an iPod, just headphone sharing in general can be all sorts of sappy and disgusting. Actually, it comes in a few flavors which are interesting for their own reasons. You have the straight out sap couple who are cuddly and enjoying their music together. Then you have the couple who aren’t even looking at each other, merely using the headphones as a means to passively spend time with each other.
I actually think the latter are more common than the former. It’s amusing/sad to watch couples find multitudes of ways to passively hang out with each other. This is why I don’t always like to go to movies with new people that I’ve just met, because if that’s going to be the only even in many cases we might as well not have hung out at all. Unless it’s a terrible movie like “Troy” where you could enjoy heckling it together there’s not much interaction in that.

I wouldn’t say I have a super problem with public display of affection, but sometimes it can be a little grating. I’d say the smaller the space that you’re in the more uncomfortable it can be, or the better you know the people the more annoying it can be. If I’m on a subway platform I can keep on walking and it’s all right. But if I’m in a subway car that’s kind of packed and the people are right in front of me then I feel less tolerant. Friends who just flaunt it all the time I just deal with by making it blatantly obvious that I don’t want to see it like putting my hand up in front of my face. Fortunately I don’t have to deal with that on a regular basis though.
