Even if their intent isn’t to show off, I still think it’s dumb to do pull-ups on the subway bars. Doing pull-ups on scaffolding is dumb too, but there’s something extra dumb about being in a smaller enclosed environment where people are almost forced to watch you do that.

I saw this new gym, and this was literally what the sign said.
Longer…muscles?
In other news I got a wacom tablet for only $30 thanks a tip from a friend of mine. I’ve always kind of wanted a wacom tablet just because they’re cool, but I could never justify the cost. For only $30 though I’m sold. If my comic ever becomes completely digital it’s still going to be a while because I need practice using a wacom tablet. I was futzing around with pen sizes trying to match it to what it’s like when I scan in my drawings. Putting a sheet of paper over the tablet helps somewhat because it feels more like drawing, and it’s not as slippery. Drawing the eyes was actually the most difficult because the brush size that worked for the lines wasn’t thick enough, and they ended up being messy. I’m going to keep practicing, and maybe someday I won’t have to kill so many trees. For now it’s good to have for touchups.

I got this “Men’s Health” sample magazine thing which was basically a light version of the full magazine to tease you into getting the free subscription which changes into a paid subscription before you know it. It had the typical muscle building articles for arms, abs, how not to exercise, what to eat after exercising etc. Then of course the better sex articles and “How to Date Out of Your League” (that one was reserved for the full magazine). Then sort of hilariously there’s an article called “7 pains you should never ignore” of which there are only three and a half.
So yes, in the article about the three erogenous zones no one ever told you about there was this photo that I knew that I had seen before somewhere on the internet. Thank god I remembered after I scanned it in otherwise I really would’ve had that going through my head all tomorrow morning. She’s in ads I’ve seen on Comingsoon.net where it says stuff like “Meet single women! Women get to sign up for free!” Or something of that sort.
It’s amusing to me the thought that there are models (men or women) who get their photo taken for a stock images bank and that those images could be used for all sorts of things that they aren’t even thinking about as they get their paycheck. Who knows? You could be a guy who gets his photo taken and then it turns out that you’re the one in the subway ad that says something like “IMPOTENCE!!!!” Heh.

I forget what the other guidelines are for a healthy life, but this one struck me as rather odd. You can go to the website to find out more for yourself.

The thin-sliced chicken is now 98% fat free. The low-carb bread ordeal was when I was at a supermarket and couldn’t find any regular white bread. I think the 96% fat free roast beef is based off of when I took a plane to Utah and all the cold cut sandwiches on the menu involved some kind of fat reduced meat. There wasn’t a single thing in the menu that wasn’t fat free or didn’t have reduced fat or sodium. At least the soda was still regular.

This is after I had read an article about how when people were asked what a carb was most of them thought that it just meant fat or calories. I had to do a little research for this one because I had remembered from biology that they were a good source of energy because they provided energy over time as opposed to sugars giving a quicker boost, and proteins taking a lot longer for the body to process. But the research let me use phrases like “complex carbs” which I wasn’t about to think of off the top of my head.

I did this one because someone had referred to my character as being fat, but I think in terms of proportions he’s pretty normal. It’s just that his body is very round. I think any thinner he’d look pretty weird.

Occasionally I’m very amused by the serving sizes of things that eat on a number of levels. Egg cartons say “1 egg” and oftentimes cookies and crackers are a lot less than what I would eat in one sitting. When I get a box of Ritz (low sodium ’cause regular is damn salty) I usually eat half a pack in one sitting. A serving of Ritz is actually something like five crackers.

Part of me feels like I should be keeping a scrapbook of all of the things that I get in the mail which inspire comics, but I’ve kind of missed the boat on that one. The chief example I cite for misleading advertisement are the photos in NYU flyers which make the campus look sunny and green like any other college which isn’t in a huge city. When I was a photography student I always wanted to make a fake NYU flyer which had pictures taken in the same style with the same expressions, but have it be really blunt and pessimistic.
