Whenever food service people explain stuff like this to mean I just picture all the annoying people that came before me who sent food back because there’s any modicum of it that appears to be uncooked even though the food is listed on the menu as is.

Several days ago I bought some white cheddar popcorn from Trader Joe’s and put it in the kitchen cabinet. Then I forgot about it until yesterday at which point I ate a lot of popcorn. Yum.
I had a craving for lasagna this weekend so I made one. Man there is a lot of cheese in lasagna. Also, because of all the ingredients, lasagna doesn’t have a great cost/serving ratio compared to other pasta dishes. Or maybe I just eat giant servings of lasagna for my meal. Mmmm, can’t wait until lunch tomorrow when I get to eat more.
Part of my breakfast for a while now has been scrambled eggs (Gordon Ramsay style) and I usually get the cheap ones, but I decided to try the organic eggs which are $2 more per dozen. I didn’t do a side by side with the scrambled, but from mixing them they felt more substantial and there looked like there was more egg in the bowl despite the similar egg sizes. In terms of flavor there might’ve been a small difference but don’t think it was very dramatic. Also, everything tastes good with some butter in it.
Later I tried hard boiled eggs this time side by side. Again, slight difference but not very dramatic. I know there are a lot of types of organic eggs too, but it’s kind of nice to know I’m not really missing out on all that much.
I was at the ramen place Underbelly in San Diego late at night when it gets kind of busy because they have lots of beers. A random guy who was probably just in the area drinking and partying came by to ask if they had sushi.
To think that sushi used to be a thing that most people just said “EW GROSS!” and now you’ll have some dudebro on the street looking for sushi any place they can find it. To think that there are places where sushi is basically bar food. Like this place Sushi Deli 2 in downtown San Diego which is always packed because young people like their happy hour and cheap sushi. It’s the sort of place where the Yelp reviews are “OMG SO CHEAP! 5 STARS!”
Sometimes you buy shredded mozzarella for a dish, but you don’t have to use it all. This is what those scenarios all lead to.
If you read any forums about video games you’re going to run into people who say that a game wasn’t worth $60 because it wasn’t long enough, and this analogy is what I think about every time. In games like Uncharted or BioShock I will stop playing just to look at stuff and think about how much work it took to make every little detail in the game even though they knew a lot of people would run through as fast as possible.
Could be my age but I enjoy the steaks more nowadays than the burgers. Talking about games here, not meat. Also if a game is a steak, that means you can eat that delicious juicy steak over and over and over again. Whereas if you go back to the burgers you’ll probably have a less potent experience.
It’s damn near impossible to find unsalted cashews at a normal supermarket other than Trader Joe’s. I don’t go to Trader Joe’s regularly but I finally did and got a bag of unsalted cashews which I’ve been hunting down for not really that long but it was frustrating how difficult they were to find.
Yes, the first impression I had was that it could’ve used a little salt, but after eating more I really didn’t want any. Mmmm, cashews…
We bought our ingredients from a local Italian market which prominently has a very large stack of antacid bottles in between the sauce and pasta. It’s kind of funny to look at but really makes sense.
I think everyone should make their own food because it’s a good thing to know in general, but also it’s good to know what’s in your food. Making really heavy Italian food is one of those things where as I’m doing it I’m thinking about how crazy it is all the stuff I’m putting into it. Then again, that’s what makes it DELICIOUS.
I also thought the same thing whenever I make stuff like ice cream, frosting and cookies. The vast amounts of sugar, butter or cream in those things really make everything suddenly become crystal clear.
I don’t know why now, maybe because I’m on this flossing kick and my teeth are more sensitive but when I was having the ice cream my teeth hurt like CRAZY from the cold. Hopefully this passes over soon.
