When I was going through shredding old junk mail I found a few charity junk mails which had personalized address labels. I now possess several dozen personalized address labels, half of which are Christmas themed. I suppose if I sent Christmas cards these would be a benefit to me. As it is I only send mail for my rent check, and those are on envelopes with the window where my address on the rent form peeks through. So basically these labels serve me no purpose.

I actually gave the charity worker a very honest “I’m okay with kids” which she laughed at. I might’ve said something different had it been 8 AM at which point there are dozens of screaming children playing in the courtyard outside my window.

Maybe “darker side” is too harsh. Still, it’s kind of ridiculous that my junk mail has at LEAST doubled since I donated to charity. I guess once they find people willing to donate they really want to see if they’ll give more :/

I think they hit the nail on the head when they let people make donations via text message. People like feeling good about giving to charity, but they’re usually too lazy to find a charity, do research and then take the credit card to make a donation. So sending a one or two word text message is about as little effort you can exert in order to donate to charity.
That said, I think Sprite wasn’t in on the meeting where they mentioned that doing anything else is probably not going to be nearly as successful, especially when the postage would cost more than the donation resulting from it. Obviously it’d be smarter to amass soda tabs but you’d have to be drinking A LOT of Sprite to get an appreciable amount so even then it still won’t be that efficient.

If I may be permitted an ironic statement, I think those cans at movie theaters for donations to fight children’s cancer are evil. Obviously it’s a good idea from their standpoint, because a lot of people would rather put in a few cents rather than be forced to admit they don’t want to pitch in to fight children’s cancer. I usually don’t because of how blatantly manipulative it is, plus if I were giving at that moment it wouldn’t be for the right reasons.
Though you gotta think they really have to be making a lot of money off of guys trying to make a good impression when they’re on a date with girl they really like. I was talking about this to a friend when we were at the movies, and I had a corollary to that situation. I said that if I chose not to donate and the girl didn’t disapprove for the reasons I just discussed, that would be a very good sign that it could be a person I’d be interested in. Will the irony never end?

This guy was set up at a Citibank ATM I went to. People weren’t giving terribly large amounts of any at all, but they were receiving small gifts if they donated from pins to shirts. I know that if you buy stuff in crazy bulk amounts the prices go down, but I seriously was wondering how much they were setting themselves back by giving people stuff for when they donated.
