This is the scenario that I imagined as I walked past the guys running the table on the street about clean energy. We’re amongst the lucky few who don’t have to pay any utilities in our apartment so I’m not sure what this guy would’ve suggested I do. Maybe petition my landlord to switch over to clean energy? That’s assuming the building isn’t already hooked up to clean energy sources in the first place which would be something I’d have to ask about first.
Luckily I had the first bill I received before switching to paperless statements. Seriously though, someone else must’ve run into this sort of situation before. In related news Optimum called me once again to try to sell me cable TV. They also like sending me postcards periodically trying to sell the triple play deal. I think I need to tell them to put me on a don’t mail/don’t call list.
Actually it wasn’t so bad. Maybe that’s just because I had forgotten to pay my April bill so that combined with May was more than the month of June. I think July is going to be the really big one though. At least lately the weather has been very mild. I was worried during that week in June with the scorching hot weather that it was a premonition of things to come. Knock on wood.
Con Ed a couple months ago started touting how the electricity bill was going to show up in a larger envelope than before. Sure enough it’s not in an envelope for regular sized letters. I don’t have an old one for comparison but I swear they just increased the margins on this thing because it looks exactly the same. I think the original point was that it was going to be easier to read because maybe people were having difficulty reading it. Yeah, not exactly helping any by having bigger margins.
I accidentally do this a couple times every Summer. I’ve already done it once so far this Summer, and the worst of it was that it wasn’t even a very hot day. Whereas a day like yesterday I wouldn’t have minded it much if I accidentally left my a/c on. I think my electricity bill is pretty reasonable even during the Summer because I don’t turn my a/c on that high, and it’s only on mostly during the weekends. The only other time of the year my electricity bill gets noticeably higher is when I’m leaving my computer on during all hours of the day because I’m downloading very large batch torrents.
I was expecting a higher electricity bill because I’ve been using my a/c on the hot 90+ degree days we’ve been enduring. I was not however expecting a bill that was nearly double that of my previous month, holy crap. I guess this is why they have timers on some air conditioners. I left mine on during the night maybe three or four nights that were extremely hot. Okay, and then there was the time I got home and realized my apartment was mysteriously cool. Maybe I had already put on my iPod headphones so I couldn’t hear that the a/c was still on when I left, woops.
