I was on the Q train at 57th street and heard the conductor doing a sound test with the guy in the center who does the announcements. I wish this was verbatim but all I could make out was them talking about B.O. I could imagine the conductor and announcer rooms getting lots of B.O. because they’re very small spaces and I imagine those guys work long shifts in that confined area.

Just a more recent irate subway announcer. I like all the different things they say when people won’t get out of the door.

This is verbatim what the subway announcer guy said. It was a guy on the C train in the morning. Most people I saw around me were smiling. He only did this for two or so stations then he went back to the usual MTA stuff without any flourish. Maybe he just likes people from certain stations better than others.

I’m not really upset that some people get amused at how pissed off the subway workers get when people won’t get out of the freakin’ doors, but it happened recently and I just thought of this comic right away.

I was out very late last night for a friend’s birthday, and ended up having what felt like the shortest subway ride ever. I don’t even remember the train going over the bridge, but by my perception of time it was about five minutes long instead of half an hour. Thankfully I didn’t actually miss my stop.

Sorry for the lack of a comic yesterday, I was just really zonked after getting back from Anime Expo, taking the redeye on Monday night and then sleeping until later in the afternoon once I got home. It always takes a while to settle back in after going to a convention and this one was in particular one that took a lot out of me for various reasons.
As for this comic I just thought of it when I was on the train going over the Manhattan bridge and the train stopped frequently saying that there was traffic ahead due to power loss in Manhattan. I was playing Brain Age Sudoku at the time so I was mostly occupied. Eventually the power loss excuse stopped and changed to the police investigation one which persisted until I made it home finally. But really, does it really matter all that much which reason we get? The one I hate the most is “There’s a train ahead of us.” Granted I know nothing about the subway and how close trains get together, but it always seems to me that if we’re not moving at all there’d be plenty of room between us and the next train. But more likely the train ahead is also going slow so that’s the reason.

No, so far as I know there doesn’t exist an alarm clock such as this one. If there was I wouldn’t buy it for two reasons. One is that it’d just be obnoxious. And two, if I got used to trying to keep asleep while this is going off it might stop working when I’m actually on the subway and then I end up missing a stop. I really do wish sometimes I could just sleep on the subway during those late night trips home. Or maybe if I could have a car like in Minority Report that’s basically on autopilot where you can relax as you’re transported straight to your apartment.

There’s a Christmas tree in the PATH train tunnel. Assuming it’s still there now, watch the left side windows and you’ll see it eventually, lights and everything. I wonder if it’s against regulations or if it was a higher up’s idea.
