I don’t know if it’s a regulation or not, but all casino ads I see on TV also have a link to a hotline for if you have a gambling problem. I even saw one of those annoying lower-3rd graphic ads which had the same information. Then I got to thinking about what if other things had to advertise in the same way?
If I were the world’s only customer every single company would save millions if not billions or trillions by not having to change the label of any of their products. There are certain products that I use only because they weren’t offensive in any way the first time I tried them. Sure there might be a product somehow more suited to me or even better than what I have, but I just won’t risk the long term commitment.
Once again I come back to points that have no value. I have a bunch of Tropicana Juicy Rewards points because since I was a kid I got Tropicana orange juice. I’ve never seriously looked into what the heck I could be getting for these points. Also, the maximum number of points that can be used for any offer seems to be 9 and I have a lot more than that.
I can’t stop thinking of snarky responses to these OK Cable commercials that are on TV all the time. Even if I called them up and did something like this it would be to some poor soul who doesn’t deserve it. If it was the actress from the commercial that would still be weird. I guess I’d have to do it to the writer of the commercial, but not even then because the writer is probably smart enough to know that it’s stupid. Then who? The person who masterminded the whole commercial?
Also turns out OK Cable isn’t actually another cable company, they sell through Optimum online and Time Warner Cable, so there aren’t any prices listed on their website.
The commercials on the Daily Show’s media player aren’t smart enough to consolidate the times to show you the exact amount of time you can turn away before your program starts. Or if you know you have enough time to go get something to drink from the fridge before it starts. It’s very irritating.
There’s this sushi place in the neighborhood that we tried once, but it was very “meh” so we never went back there again. Right now it’s either under new management or they’re trying to rebrand with a new name but everything else looking exactly the same. When they first started they did have the 10% off promotion. As far as I know they don’t have a garden but they do have free wifi right now.
Yes I’m the guy yelling at how unrealistic and stupid commercials are. OK Cable had that other stupid commercial where people are talking about how sucky internet and phone service used to be. The ones I don’t understand are the:
“We used to have to get our phone from a phone company!” (Well duh, what’s so weird about that?)
“I had to walk 5 miles to the video store!.” (NO ONE who lives that far from a video store doesn’t have a car!)
The current one is a woman calling OK Cable to solve all her problems asking those exact questions in my comic. Who the hell would call up a cable company asking them to help them save money? That’s almost as dumb as asking an internet company if their internet speeds are fast or not. Every time I hear the “What about the internet? Is it fast?” I sarcastically respond as the operator “Haha, NO!”
You know a marketing buzzword has become a full blown phenomenon when it’s being used to describe things which totally cannot be logically be associated with the thing being advertised. A few years ago that marketing buzzword was HD. Now it’s 3D because animated and live-action 3D films are now the hot gimmick. When I was in a Duane Reade recently I saw Crest 3D Multi-Care Whitening Rinse. I suppose all mouthwash in the physical world is technically 3D, but I shudder to think about the people who were enticed to buy this product because it had “3D” written on it.
I think this is mostly because I’m on the lookout for potential comic material. I realize there are other places that have Wednesday specials, maybe because it’s the middle of the week and people need a little pick-me-up?
I’m sort of embarrassed to admit that this is pretty much exactly the way it went. I don’t know how I feel about how I will now so willingly watch stuff on hulu with all their ads. How far will the I allow the convenience of TV shows whenever I want to advertise to me? I missed the season premiere of House and I was actually thinking to myself “If only Hulu was partnered with Xbox…”
