I’ve decided to do a retrospective leading up to the very end of my comic! No no I’m not going through EVERY comic, but I’m going to go back and pick out moments that I think are significant or have an interesting story. It’ll be fun and/or like therapy! Then maybe when I’m done we’ll all have learned a little something.

So yes, my first Kick in the Head comic. The original idea to do a comic was from my girlfriend at the time who said that I needed something original to my name. I don’t know why a comic was the first idea, probably because she writes and illustrates comics. She was also the one who came up with the name “Kick in the Head” because she just thought it sounded funny.

If I were to go back to my 21-year-old self I’d say to edit more and not just anime music videos. I did already know that I liked editing trailers so I don’t know why it took me so long to try it out in earnest. This was before I got my first real job in the movie trailer industry so I really had little to no idea what I was going to do other than something video related.

I think I drew this with a ball point pen on loose leaf paper that I scanned in and of course this is how I did it for YEARS because it was just easier for me than learning to use a Wacom tablet. Though even after I decided to start using one it was probably no easier to use it than if I tried it at the start.

Seriously though, it sounds so pathetic that my first comic was about wanting an iPod, but I guess it’s a sign of the times and the age. Nowadays I’m much more wary of purchasing stuff that takes up even the smallest amount of physical space in my apartment. Moving several times will do that to you, and in the grand scheme of things I haven’t moved THAT many times.
