Sometimes, at open mics there are so many people signed up that you have to get on the “alt list” which are the people who get to go if there’s time. So far here in San Diego everyone on the list gets to go because sometimes people don’t use their full 3 minutes. This particular night we found out close to the end that we’d only be getting a minute.

I hadn’t timed out my individual bits, so I had no idea how long each one was. So instead of doing my 3-4 bits I only did one.

The other thing in comedy is that going long is much worse than not going on long enough. Schedules need to be kept and if you have a reputation for always going over then people aren’t going to want to book you.
