Something I noticed in San DIego is that I’ve seen lots of instances where it seems people being waited on seem to feel much more entitled than I ever experienced in NYC. I know that people in NYC complain a lot if they feel like they’re getting screwed, but I feel like the things people here complain about getting screwed over are a lot more insignificant.

My impression is that they know the person they’re complaining to will just suck it up, whereas in NYC you have to be ready for the person on the other side to fight back, so you have to decide whether it’s worth the effort. I think that bit of fear is what makes most NYC people keep to themselves, but that lack of it is what makes people here get into other people’s business more.
