It’s true that New York really wouldn’t exist without the subway, but I like the convenience of the subway more than I do actually riding it. I enjoyed the commute where for about 45 minutes I could sit around doing nothing or get ahead in some gaming or occasionally some reading.

Give me some time and I could quite easily come up with a million things to complain about related to the subway. The constant service changes, the smell, the people and everything. I wouldn’t wish it to not be there, and I’ll miss its convenience when I’m in San Diego, but riding it was never something I necessarily looked forward to, it was a means to an end.
