In the past I cared about stuff like whether or not the Dude has a job etc because I was worried about things making sense or not. But as it’s gone on, I’ve felt like it’s better to keep the comic more separated from things going on in my life because it’s good practice to not say certain things on the internet. I don’t want people I work with to think that I’m writing about them in my comic, or future employers to think that I ever did that (though admittedly I do have some small examples of this already).
So basically it’s not about continuity, but just making it clear the separation. It probably won’t change much of how the comic is anyway, but I just wanted to establish some ground so that I feel free to do more vignette comics of moments that don’t make sense to be happening like the Dude traveling on a bus when he’s not on an established trip.

I like the non-continuity because If I haven’t read for a week, I can just go back, back, back, while with other comics (such as CAD) I have to go back, back, back until I hit something known then go forward again. This saves time
That’s true, it does make for easier reading. Though in this case it’s just going to mean more stories that probably wouldn’t happen within the life I set up for the Dude. Namely that he’s unemployed. But I’m just gonna conveniently forget that because no way an unemployed person would move from New York to San Diego for no reason at all
