If you swipe your Metrocard and don’t immediately vacate the perimeter at least a foot, then you’re doing it wrong. This woman in front of me decided that she’d stop right at the other side of the turnstile to check her handbag, effectively boxing me in. To add insult to injury, it was a series of at least six or seven turnstiles and this was the one I chose. I chose poorly.

I know exactly what you mean. I was in NY with my sister who put her metrocard in her wallet, and her wallet in her backpack, so everytime she’d block a turnstile for about 10 seconds getting everything while going in, and again for 10 seconds while going out… I had my card in my wallet but would get it out while walking, swipe and go. Only time she got in faster was when my card wouldn’t read and I asked her to press the emergency exit for me
Hehe yeah that would’ve driven me batty. I wish I had something like this http://www.kickinthehead.org/2008/02/26/travis-bickles-metrocard/ though practically I don’t know that I’d wear it all the time. Good rule of thumb: Never stop walking.
