Last night the local news was of course reporting about Anthony Weiner resigning, some stuff about his wife, and then an anchor reminding us of every single step of the entire story up until now. I know that local news isn’t ever going to be investigative reporting, and if it’s masquerading as investigative it’s more like someone trying to look like a hard hitting journalist by getting footage of themselves harassing interviewees at inopportune moments. But dammit I can dream can’t I?

It’s the unfortunate truth that people have to go out of their way to find very good news programs because most just present everything at face value (or at worst, manipulate it to fit their own narrative). Recently Bill Moyers was on The Daily Show and had a great conversation with Jon Stewart about what news has become. What Mr. Moyers said was that what is needed are more news programs that don’t just describe what is happening, but as the questions to help the audience understand the meaning behind it all.

I highly recommend watching the entire interview because even if you’re already of the same opinion as me it’ll feel good to know you’re not the only one.
