I love my Nintendo DS, but the problem with portable gaming is that it’s just not meant for long gaming sessions. I tend to fidget and shift a lot on the futon when playing console games and I just shift every which way when playing my DS. There’s no position that is optimal for portable gaming.
Either I have it in my lap in which case my neck might strain unless I hold the system up which strains my arms. Then in bed it gets annoying leaning on my arms so I get on my back which strains my arms. Sometimes I hang my arms over the edge of my bed which works somewhat. Then there’s the desk position resting elbows on the desk which is okay but my desk chair isn’t the most comfortable seat given my options.
How do you sit while playing portable gaming systems?

My ex and me bought a DS, but halfway zelda I got terrible pain in my wrists after using it for about 5 minutes, and this kept happening. So I never finished the game, we split up and she got the DS.
Wow only five minutes?? Maybe holding it put your hand in an uncomfortable position because of the shape of the DS? The DS is a pretty small system not very ergonomic when you compare it to holding any other gaming device.
Wow, the DS isn’t that small at ALL. I have a special, rare system called a GameBoy Advance Micro, and it’s about the size of a small ipod, and I can go about an hour before getting even slight pain. BTW, a way to sit so your arms don’t hurt? Try laying on your side in your bed. I do that all the time, that way if one arm starts to hurt I can just roll over and rest it, or just lay it against the bed or my other arm. Works every time.
I’ve tried the laying on my side and run into the same problem that you describe which is that it alternately hurts my arms. Some day though, I will discover the perfect DS playing position for maximum efficiency and comfort
