Maybe “darker side” is too harsh. Still, it’s kind of ridiculous that my junk mail has at LEAST doubled since I donated to charity. I guess once they find people willing to donate they really want to see if they’ll give more :/

I (as a poor student) was once persuaded with an “internet donation”, for only EUR5/month, and at least 90% of that would go to the actual charity. But several times a month I got full-colour spam persuading me to buy calendars or free samples of magazines I could get when upgrading to full donationship. After the x-mas season I got so rid of this I asked them to stop spending my money on sending me stuff I didn’t want. 3 months later, I got a lot of spam again so I cancelled the thing…
I used to feel the same way about ‘charity junk mail’, but then I read a note on one of the letters from my favorite charity. It said that when they share my address with other charities, they get these other charities’ address lists in return. So, I figure I can collect all the nickels and save all the mailing labels that I’ll never use, if it means that my charity may get a few more donors out of the deal.
