This year they have ten Academy Award nominees for Best Picture so that there can be five more movies this year whose commercials say “Nominated for Best Picture.” Yet there are still only three nominees for Visual Effects. This never made much sense to me, so many movies have visual effects nowadays you could fill five nominations.

Since I was a kid watching clips from movies was my favorite part of watching the Academy Awards, and I’d rather see more clips from visual effects scenes in movies than ones for Best Picture nominees.

I’m rooting for “Up” and “District 9.” I’m rooting for “The Hurt Locker” mostly because I don’t want Avatar to win. I still have yet to see “The Hurt Locker,” but it’s been on my list for a while.
