Since Election Night I’ve had my TV actually hooked up with an antenna so I’ve been thinking about this lately. It’s been ages since I watched regular TV so I hadn’t realized that so much of it was already HD. Commercials, news and lots of TV shows are already HD. This weekend I had the I’ll-watch-anything-in-HD syndrome though I don’t have cable so I wasn’t watching nature programs. I was watching regular TV which is far worse.

Then I got to thinking that generations of kids will be growing up with widescreen TVs and wonder why it is that not all shows fill the entire screen. Also the term “full screen” will probably disappear eventually if/when all TVs are widescreen. Will movies lose more novelty as our TV becomes more cinematic?
