On Sunday I went to see “Tokyo Godfathers” at Lincoln center. I had seen every Satoshi Kon film except for that so I was really looking forward to it. There wasn’t much of a turnout even though Satoshi Kon himself was there to give a short introduction to the film. The movie is about three homeless people who find an abandoned baby and their adventure to return the baby to its mother. It’s a really cute movie with a lot of humor, but it also has its share of the harsher sides of reality.
The only problem was the couple sitting directly behind me and my girlfriend who were enjoying the movie, but were whispering stuff to each other during the course of the movie. Actually, it was slightly higher than a whisper. I found out later that during the movie my girlfriend glared at the boyfriend long enough to get his attention. Twice. The second time he made some gesture and a face like “What’s wrong?” They didn’t stop. They weren’t ragging on the movie, but they didn’t need to be because any talking during a movie is just so damn freaking annoying.
I had thought maybe since it was an art film that it would attract a certain type of people who would want total silence during a movie. But the other side of it is, that there are people who think since the theater isn’t so full that it’s okay to talk since they’re not bothering a lot of people.
