The deli where I get lunch sometimes has a lot of people going through it at lunchtime. I’m sure over the course of many years they’ve perfected the cashier skills to a fine art. They have plastic bags already stacked in nest-like formation so items can be put in right away, and they’re just really fast at working that register, taking and giving change. It’s understandable that someone with cash behind someone with a credit card would manage to finish their transaction first. Thing is these people are so fast that someone who is just slow on taking money out of their wallet can still be beaten by the person behind them (often me). And yes, they’ve also perfected the art of saying “Thank you, have a nice day (or weekend)”
