On my lunch break yesterday I went to mail my taxes out. First place I went to was just a mailing and shipping store nearby where I work, but I couldn’t get a registered return receipt from them because they couldn’t do it if it was being sent to a post office box. Which really was a bummer because I had planned on the errand being quick, and then getting back to work soon after. Since I was already out I figure I might as well just go and brave the line at the post office. Sure enough all of these people were there.
The person on the cell phone was actually also the person buying stamps. Weird thing was this woman didn’t have the receiver to her ear most of the time, instead talking into the phone like a walkie talkie (it wasn’t on walkie talkie mode, that would’ve been extra annoying). This woman waited in line for maybe fifteen to twenty minutes JUST TO BUY STAMPS!!!
Meanwhile there was another woman who I also see every single time I go to the post office. That person is the one who seems to be making things difficult for everyone, including themselves. They don’t have any sense of communication, they have a million questions, and don’t believe anything the postal worker tells them. Their sole purpose in life is to occupy one of three active booths at the post office for the entire duration of your wait.
The last person had a granny cart set aside with their enormous package (heh).
I made it out mostly unscathed. I didn’t know which things to fill out for certified mail so when I got to the counter they gave me the stickers and stuff I needed to fill out, and then told me to go to the head of the line when I was done. When I have to do this I always think there’s going to be someone who yells out HEY NO CUTTING! Then when I get there the woman asks me if I have any hazardous liquids, chemicals or such in the letters. I realize she probably is obligated by her job to always ask, but I just wanted to be a wiseass and point out that the addresses clearly state they’re letters to the IRS.
Whatever, the taxes are sent out and that’s all that matters.
