I got my tax return yesterday, not sure what I’m going to get for my obligatory splurge. As my friends can attest to, it’s always been difficult for me to spend large quantities of money. Not that that’s a bad thing by any means. I just never feel comfortable doing it. Though somehow buying ten volumes of manga over the space of two weeks seems all right since it’s paced. That’s basically as far as I went with my splurging from my month of overtime in March. I have never really gave serious though to purchasing the Star Trek box sets since they’re over $100 each. But that’s one of those “if I had a bazillion dollars” sorts of thing I would go for immediately.

There is way too much TV to watch out there. And because of DVD there is way too much accessible TV out there. Most people like me wistfully eye the big shiny box sets of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine when we go the DVD store. I’m not sure it would be appropriate to describe what we feel when we see the seven season packaged collection.

It’s absurd on a multiple of levels that all of TNG could be bought off of Amazon for $550, especially since list price is over $900. That’s one of those situations where it could almost be tempting to think that you should get it because it’s such a great deal. BUT IT’S $500!!!! It never feels right to drop that much money on something that isn’t computer related or a cool piece of hardware like a spiffy digital camera.
