For the lazy, it’s “Just when you thought Aint-It-Cool-News’ layout couldn’t get any worse.”
I, like most intelligent movie buffs out there despise Aint-It-Cool-News for a number of reasons. In no particular order they are as follows: Stupid fanboys, terrible website layout, fake reviews of movies meant to help promote and cause hype, reviews by the webmaster meant to cause hype when the movie actually sucks, stupid fanboys, polls with so many choices it defeats the purpose of the poll, and occasionally has breaking news.
Since it’s the topic of the comic I’ll start with layout. It’s very well known that the site has one of the worst known layouts of popular websites out there. The site is slow as molasses, has a huge ugly font and is generally difficult to navigate. Forget trying to find old content, unless you want to go to a search page where any search will yield 500 pages of results. Somehow they got someone to make an ever worse web design that seems even more obnoxious and difficult to get to any news you might want to get to, this is quite an achievement really. I’d say next to sites of Christian Conservative extremists (including antiquated flashing and scrolling HTML text) it has some of the worst web design I’ve ever seen.
I could go on forever about the reasons the site is irritating, but instead I recommend watching the end of “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” where dozens of teenage boys who think they’re anonymous on the internet get the stuffing beat out of them. I think that has to be one of the most gratifying moments in modern cinema history. If only the site never had any good breaking news, because then I could stop looking at their site, but it’s an unfortunate necessary evil for people who browse the internet daily for entertainment news.
