This is something that would come up time to time when I was working as a computer lab TA at NYU. My boss talked about it with us and his take was basically to show them how to copy a folder (not a program folder obviously) from the computer to a disk and whatever they decided to do with that knowledge was up to them. To have people actually ask me how to do this was just stupid. There was this one guy who basically went down a list “What’s this program do? What about this one? So is this worth having?” and I’d just watch him copy stuff to his firewire drive right in front of me. My philosophy is that if you’re stupid enough to ask how to pirate software you don’t deserve any help. And even if you have the common sense to not do that don’t do it on the computer right next to the TA, common sense people!
