No, this never actually happened. They just like to announce when a train is two stations away when they know that people have spent an inordinate amount of time waiting for a train to come. There have been a number of funny announcements over the subway intercom but that come up in later strips. I would love to some day see the place that the MTA dispatch people work where they have to coordinate things and make announcements like that. I could’ve been misinformed, but the way I understand it is that there’s some kind of central place that they make these announcements from. I’d like to imagine it’s a place that has a huge grid of monitors like in “The Matrix Reloaded” but somehow I don’t think that’s the case.
