I went to a couple temp agencies before I landed my current job, but never ended up doing any actual temping. I thought the coolest one was the one where I had to take some tests so they could assess my various skills. When I got to the Math portion all I could think about was that no one does any Math in their head anymore. People reach for the calculator when they need to add two numbers together, the idea of thinking it out is just too slow for some people. Though it’s a bit of a catch 22 because the reason it takes too long is because they don’t do it often enough.

I took the temp agency test using the back of the folder they gave me to write out the various problems I had to do. I still rather enjoy doing Math out on a sheet of paper whether it’s doing long division or just multiplying large numbers. Something very gratifying about the process of doing it all out.
