This was actually a short film idea that I had, but I don’t have access to a fast food restaurant where I could film this so I made it into a comic. It would be a lot more entertaining if it was filmed because I had a lot of elaborate angles and strategic zooms of sorts planned for it. Now that I think about it, this was actually a James Bond-type introduction to an idea for a film that I had. Peter Jackson refers to the James Bond opening as a way to basically yank the audience out of reality and plunge them into the world of the film they’re watching. Of course, his openings are usually huge set pieces like a guy getting bitten by an infected monkey and getting his head chopped off or Gandalf falling into the pit with the Balrog.

I think food service must be one of the worst jobs in the world. First is the fact that at the end of the day you have to see how much food is thrown out which must be staggering. Next is that every customer is hungry and therefore more prone to irritation and grumpiness. People get very particular about things when they’re hungry or waiting to be seated but see that another group gets seated ahead of them. I have a friend who used to be a hostess and she explained to me the tricky dynamics of what to tell people and keeping them informed enough so that they don’t feel like they’re being ignored.
